Divination

Divination refers broadly to practices intended to obtain knowledge or guidance about hidden, distant, or future matters through the interpretation of signs, techniques, or other systems.

Divination is much broader than card reading.

Historical traditions have used:

omens;

oracles;

astrology;

dreams;

lots;

cards;

and many other interpretive techniques.

Reference works describe divination in terms of seeking knowledge of future events or hidden states through interpreted signs or practices.

Cartomancy is specifically card-based divination.

AngelCards.info distinguishes divination from reflection because our own reading engine does not claim that random card selection establishes future or hidden facts.

Distinguish a practice from evidence

Divination describes ways people seek insight or guidance. A person’s spiritual understanding of a draw is different from proof about an external event. A card cannot establish another person’s private thoughts or guarantee a future outcome.

A practical example

AngelCards.info uses card meanings as prompts for reflection. For a factual question, identify what observation or professional information could actually answer it.
