Tarot

Tarot is a historically developed card system conventionally consisting of 78 cards: 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana.

Conventional tarot contains:

22 Major Arcana

and:

56 Minor Arcana.

The Minor Arcana is organized into four suits. Historical Italian tarot used Cups, Swords, Batons, and Coins; contemporary English-language decks often use variants such as Wands and Pentacles.

Keep its structure and its history in view

The standard tarot has 78 cards: 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana. Historical tarot and contemporary reading practices should be distinguished; the modern spiritual framing does not establish an ancient origin for every themed deck.

A practical example

An angel-themed deck can be a tarot system or an oracle system. Check its actual structure and guidebook instead of deciding from the artwork alone.
